Special Olympics World Games 2009
Boise, Idaho, USA

The Floor Hockey competition was held at ExpoCenter in Boise, Idaho, USA on the week of Feb. 7th – 13th 2009. With approximately 1,175 athletes from 82 teams representing 70 Special Olympics programs from around the world.  The ExpoCenter hosted the Floor Hockey competition World Winter Games with 7 hockey courts using Mylec Hockey goals in each rink.  Events offered include Traditional Team Competition (Male), Traditional Team Competition (Female) and Unified Team Competition from Yemen, South Africa, El Salvador, China, Japan, Uruguay, India, Honduras, Spain, Costa Rico, Mexico, Algeria, Poland, Russia, Czech Rep., Greece, Germany, Chile, Kuwait and the United States.  Mylec a proud sponsor of the 2009 Special Olympics Floor Hockey competitions and was the only supplier to distribute helmets, shin pads, goalie equipment, sticks and player equipment at the World Winter Games.

US Men Finish Fourth at World Championships

The United States men’s ball hockey team posted its best finish ever at the ISBHF World Championships at Pilsen, Czech Republic, June 13-20. The US went 5-2, beating four-time defending champ Canada 5-4 in overtime in the quarterfinals before losing 5-4 to India in the semis and 5-2 to Slovakia in the bronze-medal game. Denny Schlegel of Buffalo was named the tournament’s outstanding forward. Defenseman Andrew Hildreth and forward Bobby Housser (both of Leominster, MA) were selected to the all-tournament team. Three first-time champions were crowned at the 14th annual Street Hockey USA National Championships April 24-26 at Robert Morris University Island Sports Center and Iceoplex at Southpointe, both near Pittsburgh: The Buffalo Legend Killers won C, the St. Catharines (ON) National Jets won D and Route 51 (Belle Vernon, PA) won Novice. The 2009 Massachusetts Cup will be held at Hudson Dekhockey in Hudson, MA June 26, 27 & 28. This tournament is for the Penguin, Beaver and Cadet divisions.

37 Teams with over 550 players participated for the coveted Official IDTA/ASHI Street & Dekhockey crowns this past Memorial Day. This was the 35th US National at the Leominster Dekhockey Center,  founded in 1974 by Ray Leclerc considered the Father of the sport of Street / Dekhockey. 75 games with plenty of action & excitement for the fans & players saw several "new" champs for 2009.  Click full article for scores and highlights

On the weekend ending May 3 over 75 teams participated in Egg Harbor New Jersey's annual Street Hockey Tournament.  Teams from Penguin, Beaver, Cadet and Freshman divisions from New England, NJ and PA all competed in this event.  Congratulations to Ken Bergeron and his team for another succesful event.

Through a combined effort with Mylec, ASHI has been instrumental in providing low cost equipment to our troops stationed in Iraq and other areas abroad.  Street Hockey has proven to be a favorite form of recreation for our troops.  Thank you to Mylec for their generous support and thank you to all our service men and women for all that they do to defend our freedoms.
