Street Hockey, also known as ball hockey, has been played for many years. Primarily it was an off season diversion for ice hockey enthusiasts. Driveways, backyards and vacant lots were all suitable locations for informal pick-up games. Activity increased over the years and eventually turned into organized leagues and rinks.
Now, street/ball hockey is a fast growing international sport. The International Street and Ball Hockey Federation (ISBHF) has over 40 member nations that compete in the ISBHF World Championships every two years. From North America, to Europe, to far Asia, the sport has seen a great influx of player involvement, and continues to grow and become one of the most popular amateur sports out there.
